Caesarean section & placenta encapsulation?

I occasionally get this question and in short the answer is an emphatic ‘Yes!’.

You can definitely have Placenta Encapsulation, even if you are having a caesarean section. In fact you should definitely consider placenta remedies to help you recover faster.

Some mums question whether any medication administered during a C-section will be present in their placenta pills and other placenta remedies. Others ask if manual removal of the placenta makes a difference or not. None of the pain relief options provided during labour affect the encapsulation of the placenta. Manual removal too has no bearing on whether we can encapsulate or not.

On the medication front, it is generally agreed that any medication you take to relieve pain will reach the baby. However, in the case of an epidural for example, the amount entering the bloodstream is quite small, and with a spinal, it's even smaller. While further studies are needed in this area, the small amount of medication absorbed by the baby is not known to cause harm.

Only trace amounts of analgesic medication, if any at all, may be found in the placenta at birth. During the preparation of placenta remedies, the placenta goes through our processing methods which make the placenta safe to consume. Be it in capsule, tincture, essence or cream form, you can be confident the remedies you will receive are totally safe.

Planned birth clients will arguably benefit more from their placenta remedies because of the added trauma to the body resulting from the operation.

There are 16 hormones found in your placenta capsules and all of them have a function in your postnatal healing. Below are particularly important if you are having a caesarean;

• Prolactin: promotes lactation

• Oxytocin: for pain and bonding

• Interferon: stimulates the immune system to protect against infection

• Thyroid Stimulating Hormone: boosts energy and helps recover from caesareans

• Cortisone: combats stress and unlocks stores of energy

• Hemoglobin: replenishes iron deficiency and anaemia

• Gammaglobulin: immune booster that helps protect against postpartum infections

• Urokinase Inhibiting Factor and Factor XIII: stops bleeding and enhances wound healing

There are also 14 trace minerals that have also been found to be present in your placenta capsules. These too will also speed up your recovery after a planned birth.

To summarise, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain if you do decide to encapsulate your placenta, whether it’s a natural birth or by caesarean.
